Hyderabad: It may sound unbelievable, but the gangster Nayeem, who was shot dead by police in an encounter in August 2016, had assets of over Rs. 1200 crore spread across many States.
Nayeem had 1015 acres of land and residential property spread across 67,117 sq ft in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh. After the encounter, the police have raided his den in Hyderabad and seized Rs. 2,08,52,400 cash, 1.90 kg of gold jewellery, 873 gram of silver articles, 258 cell phones and 203 registration documents on different names. Explosives and luxury cars were also seized from his den.
In Telangana State, gangster Nayeem had 40 residential properties in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda district. He also had a villa in Goa and a guest house in Maharashtra. He also owned commercial complexes in cities like Hyderabad, Bhongir, Nalgonda, Mumbai and Bangalore. Most of the properties were benami.
Probe conducted by the Special Investigation Team revealed that Nayeem had acquired these properties through mafia activities like land settlement, kidnapping and illegal encroachments.
Nayeem was killed in an encounter with police at Shamshabad in Mahabubnagar district on August 9, 2016. The SIT had registered 197 cases across the States and as many 125 members of Nayeem gang were arrested. Nayeem had alleged links with several leading politicians, current and former police officials and other influential persons. During the course of investigation, police have recorded the statement from 878 people.
